With more than 18,000 products in stock, Campbell's offers customers both the choice and one-stop-shop convenience of a big city supermarket for their 'big weekly shop'.
As a long-standing member of the powerful Costcutter Buying Group, it also has extra purchasing power that it can pass on to customers in the form of special offers and lower prices. There are also regular Costcutter promotions that cut the costs of household essentials.
The popularity of Campbell’s fruit and vegetable department has been built on a policy of ensuring customers should always be able to choose from the widest possible selection of fresh, seasonal produce.
To ensure policy has become practice the store has built up a wide network of local growers with local produce delivered daily.
Seasonal vegetables, sourced locally, where possible, are displayed alongside an extensive selection of more exotic produce from all over the world.
If your target has now doubled from '5-a-day' to '10-a-day', browsing through the selection of fruit and vegetables at Campbell's shows that it can be done - no problem!
With some bread freshly baked on the premises, we also stock a range of sourdough and tinned loaves which are delivered by Two Dales Bakery, a family run, award-winning artisan bakery based in Reeth, Swaledale. Current delivery days are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
With cheeses made from goats’, ewes’, buffalos’ and cows’ milk among more than 100 on display, the cheese counter is yet another area where the store far exceeds expectations.
Artisan cheese makers from mainland Europe as well as the UK are well represented.
Wallace would be particularly delighted to discover the large selection of Wensleydale cheeses which are on display at Campbell's of Leyburn.
While the dedicated sea-fish counter is a relatively new addition to the store, Campbell’s expertise in identifying top quality suppliers has ensured that it is already a firm favourite with shoppers.
In addition to about 30 varieties of fresh sea fish from Meridian Sea Food and Tregida in North Cornwall, customers can also choose processed fish from Mackenzies Smokehouse at Harrogate and Inverawe Smokehouse in Argyll - smokehouses with their own distinctive ranges and a shared obsession with taste and quality.
When you have a present or presents to buy and you are bereft of ideas, Campbell's can offer at least three simple and very satisfactory solutions:
Campbell's has considerable advantages over its big city cousins. It operates in a beautiful rural area where the tempo of life is naturally slower and more relaxed. It is also a long-established family business with a loyal, tightly-knit staff that understand their products and take pride in keeping customers informed.
Add to that the store’s willingness to innovate, seek out new suppliers and take care of ‘details’ by, for example, widening the aisles to reduce trolley congestion and you have a recipe for enjoyable, stress-free shopping.
