We can also announce that the winners of our 2 Magnums were Val Halton and John Clare, congratulations to you both. With 100 wines on tasting, I thought I would list the top 5 selling wines on the day, which given the numbers of people who sampled the wines must be good!! |

No1: Rioja Gran Reserva, Bodegas Ondarre, 2015, Rioja, Spain Only £14.99 The carefully selected grapes for this wine come from old vineyards surrounding the village of Viana, which overlooks the Rioja Valley, in what is now known as Rioja Oriental. The 40 year old, low yielding vines are situated on the slopes which climb up towards the Sierra Mountains at elevations of 600 to 750 metres, where the diversity of the soils contribute to the complexity in the wine. The complex and mature bouquet offers rich fruit aromas, along with hints of spice and notes of raisined fruit layered with tobacco and leather. Elegant and velvety, this is classic Gran Reserva Rioja. No 2: Vignernons de Mancey Cremant de Bourgogne, Blanc de Blancs, France £16.99 The Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc de Blancs is a lively sparkling wine, very fresh on the nose and very fine and delicate on the palate. Its very delicate, long-lasting mousse makes it particularly elegant. No.3: Darriaud Cairanne, Rhone, France £16.99 This is a rich, intense and drenched in dark red fruits. With Morello cherry and a touch of cinnamon spice on the nose, soft dark plummy fruit, liquorice, chocolate, a hint of black tea on the palate, this wine is full flavoured and smooth with supple tannins. If you like Chateauneuf-du-Pape then you will love this wine. No.4: Primitivo Puglia Doppio Passo 2023, Italy £11.99 Primitivo grapes benefit from warm climate with plenty of rain as well as long hours of sunshine and soil that contains limestone, clay or sandstone. The grapes for the Doppio Passo Primitivo Puglia IGT are harvested at two different times: one part when full ripeness is reached, the other as a later harvest. The result is a soft, round and exceptionally full-bodied wine with an amazing concentration of plum, blackberry, cherry and chocolate flavours and an appealing structure with soft tannin and acidity. In youth it has fresh, varietal aromas that become more complex with the time. No.5: Kaori Oaked Viura Rioja Blanco, Spain £13.99 The Ontanon Kaori (previously known as Akemi!) is made from old-vine Viura with a dash of Malvasia Bianca and Garnacha Blanca in the blend. Aged in predominantly 2nd use American oak, the wine is beautifully rounded and balanced with lively acidity. The tropical and stone fruit come first followed by the signature texture and feel. These wines are all available in store now, subject to availability. Why not join our mailing list for all our in-store happenings... |
