Some of you maybe be aware, but for those who aren't, the Government has inherited a highly controversial alcohol duty system that's due to be put in place on 1st February 2025. Replacing the current flat rate for 11.5%-14.5% ABV wines, this new regime has 30 tax bands for wines based on alcohol volume. The more alcoholic the wine, the higher the tax. This change will not only increase the costs and complexities for wine retailers, but it could also result in price increases or wines being removed from suppliers lists entirely in some cases. We have highlighted below what the new band rates will be to us, based on the alcohol volume, so please don't blame us if your favourite wine may have jumped up in price or why a red wine from the same range may be a different price to the white equivalent but it will be what we all have to do based on the new rates. |
