Douglas Laing Big Peat Islay Blended
Malt Whisky 46% vol 70cl

rrp £43.99 Special Offer Only £38.99

Tasting Notes
A big bodied blended malt from Islay. It comprises malt whisky from Caol Ila, Bowmore, Ardbeg and Port Ellen. Big Peat is a great whisky with lots of peaty character.

Nose
Warm slabs of tangy peat. Hints of chocolate, coffee and cedar with spices, walnuts and almond. A touch of cinnamon with oily smoke.

Palate
Simple, easy going, but delicious. Notes of heavy smoke, cut grass, peanut, spices and peat.

Finish
Quite abrupt with cut grass, coastal notes and smoke.

Douglas Laing Scallywag Speyside Blended
Malt Whisky 46% vol 70cl

rrp £43.99 Special Offer Only £38.99

Tasting Notes
Big Peat's gone and got himself a trusty sidekick in the shape of a dapper Fox Terrier wearing a monocle! Scallywag from Douglas Laing is a vatted malt made from Speyside whiskies, including Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes. Many of the whiskies used in the small batch release come from Spanish sherry butts, giving Scallywag a fab sweetness that's balanced by some "mischievous" bourbon cask whisky also in the blend.

Nose
Sweetness jumps up like an excited puppy. Icing sugar, sultanas and candied ginger. A few hints of grain here and there, but sweetness steals the show.

Palate
The sweetness surprisingly retreats, revealing nutmeg and cereal. Vanilla comes in near the end. Cinnamon too, giving it a prickle of spice.

Finish
A pinch of oak spice joins the vanilla and sherry for the finish.

Overall
Incredibly pleasant, the Scallywag is an absolute treat in every sense.

Douglas Laing The Epicurean Lowland
Blended Malt Whisky 46.2% vol

rrp £42.99 Special Offer Only £38.99

Tasting Notes
A lowland blended malt from the excellent Douglas Laing that's "city born and bred" and is personified by the 1930s cheeky chappy and all-round connoisseur on the label!

Nose
Very buttery, joined by notes of lemongrass, grist and cereals. A fruity hint of green banana and refreshing spearmint.

Palate
Apples, pears and white grapes at first. Elegantly grassy later on, with some chocolate fudge bringing in a touch of sugary sweetness. A pinch of pepper lingers and lasts onto the finish.

Finish
Cloudy lemonade, honey’d barley and granary bread with a thin layer of thyme honey.

Douglas Laing The Gauldrons Campbeltown
Blended Scotch Whisky 46.2% vol 70cl

rrp £55.99 Special Offer Only 47.99

Tasting Notes
Its name is a reference to the “dark sandy coves” in Campbeltown, and, according to legend, it was here that Robert the Bruce (King of Scotland from 1306-1329), witnessed a plucky spider attempt to build a web over and over again, which he took as inspiration to keep fighting. An intricate golden spider’s web on the packaging demonstrates the importance of that ode to this brand. Douglas Laing have maintained a strong sense of tradition throughout, it would seem. The Gauldrons blended malt is produced in small batches and bottled at 46.2% ABV, without colouring or chill filtration. Each batch is numbered in order to compare future bottlings to gauge how this interesting new line develops in the casks over time.

Nose
Sweet cereals, with a note of iodine and sweet spices.

Palate
It's slightly coastal, with smooth peat and gentle wood spice. A touch of salted caramel is there, as is a little brown sugar and smokey barley.

Finish
Medium finish, with notes of vanilla, robust peat and sea salt.

Douglas Laing Timorous Beastie Highland
Blended Scotch Whisky 46.8% vol 70cl

rrp £42.99 Special Offer Only £38.99

Tasting Notes
Joining the ranks of Big Peat and Scallywag is Douglas Laing's Timorous Beastie, a blended malt made entirely of Highland whiskies from distilleries such as Dalmore, Glen Garioch, Glengoyne and more. The name is a nod to the Robert Burns poem 'To a Mouse' and to Burns' wit, as though the mouse in the poem is a timid little thing, this whisky is nothing of the sort!

Nose
Acacia honey, creamy boiled sweeties (the strawberry flavour), dried apricots and white grapes. There's a good whack of Sherry influence in here too! A whiff of coastal air and classic Highland heather, too.

Palate
Dried fruits, green apples and anise. Sweet grist and malt loaf. Pebble beaches and more heather on the mid palate.

Finish
Long. Drying with hot cinnamon sweeties and fresh bread.

Overall
Who are you calling timorous? This beastie is big, brave and an absolute blast!

46%vol 70cl

Only £76.99

Tasting Notes
Introduced in 2016, Lustau doubles down on the sherry influence all Redbreast fans love. This single pot still Irish whiskey was initially matured in a combination of American and European oak casks (like all Redbreasts) for 9 to 12 years, before being transferred over to first fill Oloroso Sherry casks from Bodegas Lustau for a further year. Sublime stuff.

Nose
Rich and round with toasted almond, Curaçao orange peel studded with clove, stewed fruits and juicy sultanas.

Palate
Chewy milk chocolate and honey (almost a bit Crunchie-like) with allspice, walnut and poached plum depths.

Finish
Long with apple turnovers giving way to rich sherry and crushed cinnamon.

Compass Box Nectarosity Scotch Whisky

Tasting Notes
Behind all the most exquisite patisseries are test kitchens, where delicious creations are invented, and it's much the same for whisky blenders! Straight out of the Compass Box test kitchen, Nectarosity is a blended Scotch whisky combining spirit from the likes of Linkwood, Cameronbridge, Girvan, Clynelish, and Balmenach, and it's brimming with notes of sweet honeyed fruit, butterscotch, and cinnamon pastries.

Nose
This whisky is intended to be a pastry of a dram and we get that immediately on the nose, with frangipane, croissant, pineapple cubes, cinnamon, and apricot yoghurt.

Palate
Generous layers of fruit lead the way, with juicy peach and nectarine, poached pear, and tropical notes of pineapple.

Finish
The finish gently waves away with tropical fruit, warm pastries, and marzipan.

Domaine des Hautes Glaces Indigene Organic Whisky France,
50cl, 44% vol.

Palate
Bold oak and orchard blossom tangle, with layers of honey and a touch of cedar supporting chocolatey malt and zesty citrus.

Kyrö Wood Smoke Malt Rye Whisky 70cl
Finland, 47.2% vol.

Only £59.99

Tasting Notes
Decidedly smoky rye whisky from the Kyrö team in Finland! The rye used for this expression was smoked with alder wood, which they say can impart hints of smoked ham and campfire smoke. Blend that with the aromatic spiciness of rye and the creamy, vanilla-rich notes imparted by maturation in ex-bourbon, French oak, and new American white oak barrels, and you've got a spectacular spirit on your hands!

Nose
Forest floor earthiness, joined by whiffs of Sichuan pepper and freshly baked rye bread with butter.

Palate
Vanilla, more pepper, orange oil, a slow build of dry smoke with a little meaty heft behind it.

Finish
A long finish, with the smoke taking the spotlight.

Those grassy notes from the nose lead up front, balanced by bold, fruity helpings of spiced apples, and honeyed almonds.

Finish
A satisfyingly long finish, with rounded layers of biscuity malt, sherried oak, and spiced complexity.
