![]() NEW Strandveld First Sighting Sauvignon Blanc, Cape Agulhas 2023, South Africa 13% vol 75cl rrp £15.99 Special Clearance Offer Only £8.99 Grapes Sauvignon Blanc (93%) Semillon (7%) Region Cape Agulhas is a wine-producing region on the most southern tip of South Africa, 110 miles (170km) from Cape Town. The Cape is the official meeting point of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, and the distinctly maritime climate has a marked effect on the wines made here. Producers make the most of the range of soils to produce expressive and racy Sauvignon Blanc and elegant, cool-climate Shiraz which have become staple styles for this area. Producer Nestled between Elim and Cape Agulhas, and just 9km from the sea, lies the secluded Strandveld Vineyards. This wind swept winery derives its name from the belt of land which spans the tempestuous tip of Africas southernmost coastline. At almost 35 degrees below the equator, this part of the Cape is characterised by severe winds, billowing mist and below average temperatures. A unique combination of maritime climate and diverse soil types work together to create the terroir which distinguishes the wines of Strandveld Vineyards. Tasting Notes From the southernmost tip of Africa comes this aromatic Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is made protectively to promote the lovely freshness, with 6 months on lees for a fuller mouthfeel. Pale lemon in colour with an abundance of expressive tropical and citrus notes and a hint of asparagus. The palate is full and fresh with crisp and zesty acidity leaving a long bright finish with lovely mineral character. The fruit from the nose continues with notes of grapefruit, guava and buchu. Food Perfect on its own or pair with oysters, prawns or summer salads. |

![]() NEW Domaine Séguinot-Bordet Chablis, France 2023 12.5% vol% 75cl rrp £28.99 Special Clearance Offer Only £18.99 Grapes Chardonnay (100%) Region Only 100 miles south of Paris, Chablis represents the northern limit of Burgundy`s wine regions, centred around the town of Auxerre. The soils are predominantly limestone and chalk, perfect for the Chardonnay grape, the only variety allowed in Chablis. Careful siting of south facing vineyards enables the vignerons to produce classic, dry, and steely wines. The most complex of these are produced from the seven Grand Cru vineyards which are all located on the northern slopes that overlook the town of Chablis itself. The Premier Cru vineyards are scattered around Chablis on the slopes of the valleys and here produce excellent quality wines with a little less intensity. Producer The origins of Burgundy`s Domaine Seguinot-Bordet date back to 1590. Resting on the sloping right bank of the Serein river, 19 hectares lie on a perfect south/south-east exposition. Jean-Francois Bordet, the youngest of the family, places particular emphasis on obtaining the best fruit possible, through careful pruning, debudding and harvesting. Jean-Francois practices coolish fermentation, which allows the wines to mature for two-five months on their lees; this maximises the grape skin contact and gives the wines a rounded mouth-feel. Tasting Notes Classic, unoaked Chablis. The wine is aged for nine months on the fine lees to add richness and compexity before being bottled. Very pretty pale golden yellow in colour with light greenish glints. Bright, luminous and limpid. On the nose delicate, ripe peaches and apricots and notes of verbena. Perfect harmony of maturity, mellowness and vivacity with a light touch of minerality. Food Serve with salmon en croute or trout in a light dill and cream sauce or enjoy with a light summer salad. |
